District 9

This week on the Untitled Sci-Fi Show, we return to one of the most celebrated science fiction films of the 2000s to find out whether District 9 really deserves its legendary reputation. Along the way we kick things off with another round of Guess the Intro, accidentally expose how often we recycle our favourite clips, and congratulate a listener who absolutely embarrasses us by getting every answer right.

Then it's time to beam aboard Star Trek for one of our favourite nerdy discussions yet, as we completely overthink the Universal Translator, question how it would actually work, wonder whether pets should be able to talk, and somehow end up discussing tele-operated sex toys. As usual, one innocent sci-fi question spirals gloriously out of control.

Finally, we take a deep dive into District 9, discussing Neil Blomkamp's unique documentary style, the film's social commentary, incredible visual effects, memorable alien design and why revisiting it over fifteen years later gave us a very different opinion than when we first watched it. Is it still one of the greatest modern sci-fi films, or has time changed the way we see it?
